This zine was one of my favourite zines to make - I used a different technique which involved cutting out parts of paintings from an art book I found in a charity shop. I used these images to inspire connections with the theory I was working with in my research: new materialism. Thus, the meanings in this zine came from the very materials that I had at my fingertips; this was perfect for a theory which emphasises the agency of matter.
The writings around this theory are so complex, however, that I had to find a way to stabilise my own understandings and remind myself of the basics as I went along throughout the project. Finding a way to simplify ideas which filled large books, such as Karen Barad's Meeting the Universe Halfway, was challenging but extremely satisfying, particularly when the materials laid out in front of me (the images of artworks I had cut out) grounded me and inspired new ways of thinking through these ideas.
Whilst I do not pretend that this zine is simplified, I do believe that it reveals the possibilities zines hold for pedagogical communication both on a personal learning journey and with others who wish to engage with these theories and discussions.
